Due to Amazon River low water level requiring slow and cautious speed traveling down river, the pilot boat being six hours late to pickup the pilot at 3 AM, and head-currents in the Atlantic, we will not be making a port call at Recife.  😢

ALERT:  This blog post is exceptionally long.  Our Normandy stop, along with Delhi, India (Easter Sunday sunrise at Taj Mahal!), were the highlights of our four-month cruise.   Normandy was very emotional, both for Diane and myself.  Our dads served in WW II and Diane's dad and I served in Viet Nam. Our Normandy visit preceeded the 80th anniversity celebration of the June 6, 1944 landings. The  Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial  is a  World War II   cemetery  and  memorial  in  Colleville-sur-Mer ,  Normandy ,  France , that honors American  troops  who died in Europe during World War II. It is located on the site of the former temporary battlefield cemetery of Saint Laurent, covers 172.5 acres and contains 9,388 burials. PUERTO MONTT, CHILE Puerto Montt  is a port  city  and  commune  in southern  Chile , located at the northern end of the  Reloncaví Sound  in the  Llanquihue Province ,  Los Lagos Region , 655 miles to the south of the capital,  Santiago .  The commune spans an area of 646 square miles and has a population of 245,902 in 2017.  It is bounded by the communes of  Puerto Varas  to the north,  Cochamó  to the east and southeast,  Calbuco  to the southwest and  Maullín  and  Los Muermos  to the west.
