Wow, 141 days later (from December 15, 2017)!  This world cruise has been fun, educational, interesting, an eye opener to the world, and a blessing to learn about people of cultures and living standards other than those of the Good Ol’ USA.  God bless America; how truly fortunate we are to live in a country that enjoys the freedom, liberty, and wealth that we enjoy, all too often taken for granite by too many.  What a blessing it would be for every American to see what we have seen and to realize how great America is.

Days 18-24, Jan 26-Feb 1, 2024 Six Sea Days + a Day on Waitangi, New Zealand

  After five sea days, we were ready to get out and about (we very much enjoy sea days - so relaxing!).  Our first NZ port call was at Waitangi.   Waitangi, one of New Zealand's most significant historic sites, is where the   Treaty of Waitangi   was signed in 1840 between the British Crown and more than 500 Maori chiefs. The treaty agreed the terms by which New Zealand would become a British colony. Today the  Treaty Grounds  are an opportunity to learn about Maori culture and the historical events associated with the signing of the treaty. At the Treaty House one can see a replica of the original treaty; observe the fully carved Maori meeting house and one of the largest Maori war canoes in the country; and  visit the two museums Te Kongahu and Te Rau Aroha .  Live cultural performances  are also held regularly and there’s a hotel located within the reserve that has a restaurant and bar.  Not only is Waitangi e...

Our parents and our family travels

The name of our blog, TravelingTolins2, is derived from Larry’s parents Traveling Tolins.  They were avid RVers who got their start by honeymooning at Yosemite in Dad’s homemade teardrop pull-behind trailer in the spring of 1938. After a two decade break, while Dad served in the Navy during World War II for 3+ years and for both Dad and Mom to raise two boys, they bought a used Airstream pull-behind, self contained travel trailer.  During the subsequent three decades they pulled trailers through 49 states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. At the age of 86 Dad traded in a pull-behind travel trailer for a 33-foot Airstream motorhome.  Mom and Dad continued to travel in it for six more years when they had to retire due to Parkinson’s Disease. Diane’s parents were also RVers.  When Dad retired from the Army, they bought an Avion pull-behind trailer and traveled most of the US states in a two-decade time.  L...
