Tuesday, March 13, 2018, Kowloon, China day 2 (1 of 2)

Our second-day Hong Kong shore excursion stayed on Kowloon Peninsula where we visited two temples and two gardens.

On Our way into the Wong Tai Sin temple.

Rubbing this statue is thought to bring good luck.

Statues of the mascots of each of the twelve zodiac years on the Chinese calendars.
With the recent Chines New Year they are in the year of the Dog.
Larry:  Year of the Rabbit.
Diane:  The year of the Boar (USA) or Pig (China).
Prayers

After prayers, the prayers visit Fortune Tellers.  Chinese are extremely superstitious.
Prayer supply shops.

Diane got good luck on the way in; Larry got it on the way out.

The wall enclosing the Walled City was built by the Qing Government in 1847.  During the Japanese Occupation between 1941 and 1945, it was torn down by Japanese soldiers to provide materials for laying the foundation of the Kai Tak Airfield.

The walled city became a haven for the Mafia, prostitutes, crime, alcohol, drugs, and lawlessness during the early 1900s.  The British government finally got fed up with it, and with the blessings of the Chinese government decided to tear down the city and construct a park.

Can you make out the dragon?

More laundry; Chinese like to hang it out for ozone treatment.
Note the garden on top of the apartment building.

A second blog post (to follow soon) will feature the second garden and second temple visited today.
